I spent all of yesterday on the road watching shadows as I made my way from Vietnam to Singapore, shadows on the dirt road, shadows on the tarmac, shadow reflected on the airplane wing, shadows cast in airport lounges... reminded me of this paragraph from Shadow Yoga by Shandor Remete (thanks Michelle Lloyd for the book!)
"The body is nothing but layers of frozen shadows - the shadow of joy, the shadow of the intellect, the shadow of the mundane mind, the power principle, the gross structure, the lustre of the skin, and the shadow on the ground. By considering the list of shadows, one can see how different people are stuck on different planes. Some are joy hunters, some...power mongers, while others are intellectuals and so on. There is nothing wrong with these kinds of behaviour, but by themselves, they lead nowhere. However, if these shadows are correctly investigated with an open mind, then they can fuel the journey to enlightenment (freedom)." May we each be our own lightbearer. For just a moment, take time to reflect upon the layers of our own shadow and embrace every shade of grey with an open mind (and heart), because even our own reflection in the mirror is but a shadow of our self <3 |
